The NISSIN FOODS Group promotes obtaining the certification of ISO 14001 international standard on environmental management systems, and develops environmental preservation measures tailored to individual business sites. In addition, the Environmental Promotion Division at NISSIN FOODS HOLDINGS investigates compliance with environmental laws and regulations and the implementation of environmental management at Group manufacturing plants in Japan based on our in-house environmental survey standards (RISEA*). Results from these surveys are fed back to each plant, and subsequent improvements are monitored. In fiscal 2020, investigations were conducted at 22 of 29 manufacturing plants.
In April 2020, the Group changed the name of the Environmental Committee to the Sustainability Committee, chaired by the CEO, to expand the committee's scope to include themes other than the environment. Five working groups have been set up under the newly-named committee, which includes the Environment working group. To achieve the goals in the environmental strategy EARTH FOOD CHALLENGE 2030, the Group is undertaking various issues. For more information, please see the special page.

The NISSIN FOODS Group has set the acquisition of qualifications as one of our Medium-Term Environmental Targets for FY2021, including having 100% of environmental managers passing the Eco Test or Environmental Planner certification. In addition, business sites that have obtained ISO 14001 certification provide education for internal auditors and department-specific and level-specific education. On top of this, we are raising the environmental awareness of our employees by holding seminars conducted by external lecturers and creating opportunities to carry out volunteer activities related to environmental preservation. (Refer to “Biodiversity Conservation”)
In addition, we are grasping changes in employee awareness by implementing an employee attitude survey related to environmental considerations and the social contribution of the company.

Activities by overseas Group companies to raise environmental awareness
At NISSIN FOODS THAILAND, employee training is being carried out on environmental policies and goals through training session and posting inside the plant. Furthermore, in FY2020, 18 employees implemented cleaning activities in areas around the plant.
At Nissin Foods Kft. (Nissin Hungary), contents related to the environment are included in training conducted when employees first join the company. Also, as an initiative to reduce the use of plastic cups in the workplace, Nissin Hungary and NISSIN FOODS DO BRASIL are encouraging employees to use their own cups.
Since FY 2019, NISSIN FOODS (Hong Kong) has been conducting an environmental education tour for employees. In FY2019, 27 employees visited a sludge treatment facility in Hong Kong to learn about the waste management and collection methods, recycling promotion measures, and technologies to convert waste into energy. In FY2020, with environmental NGO Greeners Action as a guide, the company conducted a tour of a plastic waste depository and the first “naked shop” opened in Hong Kong. The 17 employees experienced at the depository the vast amount of plastic waste that is actually emitted. Participants also visited the “naked shop” where products are sold without any containers or packaging and shopped by bringing in their own bottles and containers.
